Curiosity has got the better of me...How fast is that guy whipping by me going?

Caution: the answer involves math...well counting anyways.

  1. Start your count when their front bumper passes you.
  2. Stop when their back bumper passes.
  3. Refer to chart below.
  4. Add the chart speed to yours.
Time (s) Car/Truck
Speed (km/hr)
Semi
Speed (km/hr)
0.25 +65
0.50 +32
0.75 +22
1.00 +16
1.25 +13
1.50 +11 +60
1.75 +9 +51
2.00 +8 +45
2.25 +7 +40
2.50 +6.5 +36
2.75 +6 +33
3.00 +5.5 +30
3.25 +5 +28
3.50 +4.5 +26
3.75   +24
4.00 +4 +22
4.25   +21
4.50 +3.5 +20
4.75   +19
5.00   +18
6.00   +15
6.75 +2.5
8.00 +2.0
9.00   +10

Now we are assuming here that a car or truck is about 4.5m, give or take 1/2 a meter and a semi is roughly 25m give or take a meter. But it really doesn't matter cause anyone ripping by you in less than a second is really cruising.

For those of you who didn't make the leap of logic, you can see how much slower the person you're passing is going by subtracting the chart answer from your speed...(the obvious has now been pointed out, your welcome.)
